Members of the community and Dixie State University students gathered to remember and pay tribute to the events of 9/11.
The chairs were not filled, but not because there weren’t students participating. Students filled the steps to the Holland Building and overflowed into the standing area on the encampment mall.
There was a silence over the crowd as the colors were presented and posted by DSU Army ROTC cadets.
The National Anthem was performed by Dean of Students Del Beatty, Miss Dixie Shaelie Knutson, D-Queen Jill Wulfenstein and Dixie Idol Winner Chance Steglich.
White balloons were distributed to those who attended to symbolize the Utah men and women who sacrificed their lives for The United States. The balloons were then realeased during the moment of silence to remember the fallen individuals as well as honor those serving today.
Local officials including the police force and fire department were recognized and presented with DSU blankets as gifts from DSU.
The audience got to hear from Steglich again as he did a solo performance.
Refreshments were served after the event alongside “pay-it-forward” cards, which people in attendance were encouraged to take and act upon. 9/11 has been named the National Day of Service and Remembrance.
