Fresh-squeezed orange juice was once hard to find on campus, but the new dining services available at Dixie State College offers students just that — and much more.
The Holland Centennial Commons building has two dining areas for students’ hunger convenience located on the first and second floors.
Martin Peterson, director of campus dining services, said a focus group was brought in to decide the names of the places and chose the two they thought were best.
“The dining areas are called Infusion and Stacks (which are) meant to represent a combination of the sandwiches being fused together and stacked high like the library stacks,” said Peterson
Peterson said the food will bring more people to the Holland.
“The library is fabulous and has so much technology,” Peterson said. “The food is a great addition to the Holland because food brings people together and will help bring people there.”
Peterson said they are one of the only places in St. George that offers fresh-squeezed orange juice, and they have some creative sandwiches.
“We have an amazing sandwich called The Cran that has cranberry sauce, turkey and cream cheese on it,” Peterson said. “It’s definitely our No. 1 sandwich, and it’s delicious.”
Martin said students are encouraged to eat at the facilities to earn bounce-back coupons that can either benefit them when they eat at the Red Rock Cafe or The Beast, a mobile dining service offered to students at their convenience.
“When students eat at Infusion, Stacks, The Beast or the Red Rock Cafe, they can get a bounce-back coupon that gets them something for free at another location,” Peterson said. “It’s a great way to get students to notice the different dining areas on campus.”
Brittany Snow, a freshman undecided major from Santaquin, said the stores have a lot of different options for students.
“We offer a lot of different coffee options for the coffee drinkers,” Snow said. “It’s a great place for students to stop and grab something before class.”
Snow said some of her favorite options Infusion offers are the bagels and muffins.
Shawn Truman, a freshman general education major from Enterprise, said if he could convince anybody why they should come to the facilities to eat, it’d be for the Italian sodas.
“The sodas are so good,” Truman said. “I don’t think any other place on campus offers them.”
Peterson said it was hard to open the two spots in the Holland during the summer because not many students were on campus, but he said the stores are growing in popularity.
“We are doing really well,” Peterson said. “We are working on some advertising, and with students being back things are better. Our biggest competition right now is Swig, but otherwise the stores are doing great.”
Peterson said there will be new options in the store coming out during Homecoming Week and encourages students to check out the facilities.
