The Celebrity Concert Series brings something fun and different to do in the upcoming chilly evenings.
Mark your calendars for the famed Utah Symphony Orchestra that will kick off the Celebrity Concert Series for the 2012-2013 season. The Utah Symphony will perform Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cox Performing Arts Center.
Everyone ought to attend this performance, said Gail Bunker, the manager of the Celebrity Concert Series and DSC coordinator of cultural affairs. Bunker said the classical performance will enhance students’ education.
Mattison Warren, a senior music major from Fallon, Nev., said he has gone to past Celebrity Concert shows and is really excited for this performance by The Utah Symphony. He said for a lot of people its good enertainment to listen to and it will probably sell out really fast.
If orchestral music is not your style, and you’re looking for something not so serious, The Piano Guys are right up your alley. Millions have viewed their winning combination of classical and modern music video mashups on YouTube.
Bunker said a lot of students will like The Piano Guys because of the entertaining and funny antics they bring into their performances.
Kaylee Litson, a senior psychology major from Washington City, has been to one of their concerts before. She said it was the coolest concert she’s ever attended.
“I mean even though it’s just two guys sitting up on the stage, one on a piano and one on a cello,it’s an amazing experience,” Litson said. ”They are amazing musicians.”
The guys who make up The Piano Guys, Jon Schmidt (piano) and Steven Sharp Nelson (cello),will perform their unique and entertaining style of music on Oct. 19 and 20 at the Cox Performing Arts Center.
Also, Alice Tan Ridley, a 2010 finalist of “America’s Got Talent,” will be performing on Nov. 1 and 2. Ridley has received glowing reviews and fans for her unforgettable, soulful musical talent.
All these shows will be performed at the Cox Performing Arts Center, 325 S. 700 East, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are only $5 for students, so reserve your seat now by calling the Dixie State College box office at 435-652-7800.
