The Dixie State University softball team spilt a two-game series with Dominican University Tuesday.

Each game was decided by a narrow margin, with the Trailblazers taking the first game and dropping the second.

In the first game, DU took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. The deficit was short lived when DSU bounced back to score six runs in the bottom of the first.

The Trailblazers scored six more unanswered runs through the fourth inning for a 12-3 lead. The Penguins would not back down, and closed the game on its own 6-2 run.

DSU eventually held off the Penguins 14-9.

The teams ran it back and this time DSU was not able to walk away victorious.

The Trailblazers took a 3-1 in the third thanks to a two-run bomb from senior catcher Arista Honey.

An error by DSU and four hits gave the Penguins a 6-3 lead in the top of the fourth.

A pinch-hit home run by freshman first baseman Riley Tyteca brought DSU within a run, but the Trailblazers were never able to retake the lead and lost 6-5.

The Trailblazers travel to Hawaii next weekend to take on Pacific West Conference foes. It’s two-game series with University of Hawaii-Hilo begins Sunday at 3 p.m. Mountain Time.
